More than one-third of women spent weight along with their partner, while only 15 percent of women lost weight when their spouse did not. The survey only found an association between healthier habits and spousal support. "Our study wasn't designed to fulfil the 'why' question but I think that the most likely explanation is that changing together makes the vary easier - support, encouragement and maybe a little bit of competition.
